This shows the bottleneck is not disk I/O but MinIO.
- get consumes NIC resources
The IB bandwidth of the test node reached 50+ Gbps, and the MinIO node’s bandwidth reached 10+ GBps.
Disk I/O util was not high.
CPU usage was under 20 cores.
Because SSD storage is used, a single disk alone can reach 3 GiB/s of throughput, so the width of the data blocks makes little difference, and basically all configurations reach around 7 GiB/s of throughput.
- put consumes disk and CPU resources
The test node’s bandwidth was very low, while the MinIO node’s bandwidth reached 13+ GBps.
Two nodes had disk I/O util close to 100%, while the other two were around 20%.
CPU usage was 20+ cores.
- Parity blocks consume CPU resources
The more parity blocks there are, the more time is spent on computation during writes; a larger shard file may in turn improve write performance and shorten some of that time.
For four machines, four drives each, 16 drives in total, 10+6 and 12+4 are configurations worth trying.
